The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum (The Forum) will host an international conference on transitional justice from 4 – 6 October 2012.
A key part of the conference will be to encourage wider thinking around the topic, by drawing upon discussions of problems and experiences in developing solutions from different countries namely; Liberia, Uganda, Germany, the Philippines and Rwanda.
The conference will bring together high profile speakers from a wide range of geographical areas, with a focus on countries that have gone through similar periods in their history. Two speakers each stemming from the same country and having been involved in the same transitional (justice) process will present their differing views on the same subject. In this context, the Forum will strive to pair one government and one civil society representative wherever possible. The conference hopes to provide a means to foster dialogue and establish long-term working relationships.
The conference will afford speakers and participants a forum to discuss and analyse the differing obstacles that have confronted the application of peace building/ national healing strategies in the different countries that underwent periods of unrest. Participants will benefit from lessons learned in a variety of countries across Africa, Europe, and Latin America.
