The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum (the Forum) joins other civil society organizations and all relevant stakeholders in congratulating the ZCTU Secretary General Mr. Wellington Chibhebhe on being awarded the A. Phillip Randolph Institute “Norman Hill” Award as well a the Don Pino Puglisi International Prize. The two awards are bestowed on individuals who have excelled in their fight for community development and the promotion of dignity for mankind in their own countries. The Forum feels honored to be associated with Mr. Chibhebhe who has continued over the years to selflessly devote his time to the struggle for workers’ rights in Zimbabwe and the democratization of the Zimbabwean state. The awards bestowed on Mr. Chibhebhe should serve as a clarion call on other Zimbabwean human rights defenders to continue the fight for democracy in Zimbabwe.
The Forum reiterates its call to the parties to the power sharing agreement to honor their commitment to ending human rights violations in Zimbabwe and to take positive steps for the recovery of all sectors of the economy.
The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum commends the ZCTU and Mr. Chibhebhe for their tireless efforts to emancipate the Zimbabwean worker. We salute you, Mr. Chibhebhe for your valiant contribution to Civil Society, the worker and Zimbabwe as a whole.
