Plain clothed police officers raided offices of the Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) on Monday, February 11.
It has been confirmed that 6 police Officers led by Detective Assistant Inspector Nyoni arrived at the ZPP offices in Hillside in the afternoon armed with a search warrant. They ransacked the offices in the process confiscating ZPP files and equipment that included violence incidents reports, mobile phones used by Peace Corps in communities and solar and kinetic energy propelled radios. They allegedly took anything they deemed subversive.
In Masvingo police also raided NANGO Offices where a youth organisation, COTRAD is housed. Benias Tirivavi of NANGO and Zivanai Muzorodzi of COTRAD were taken to Masvingo police station for interrogation. These acts of harassment by law enforcement officers follow the arrests of Zimrights staff in December 2012 and January 2013 and are a cause for concern.
