Three local human rights bodies will on Friday host a breakfast meeting for the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC), where they will interact with healthcare service providers to map out ways of enhancing the promotion and protection of the right to health through the work of the commission.
The Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (ZADHR), together with the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGOs Forum and the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association, are seeking to find ways of ensuring that the basic human right of health for all can be achieved to the highest possible standards.
ZADHR executive director Calvin Fambirai said since March, they had partnered with the ZHRC, where they have sought to establish a mutual relationship in promoting human rights, particularly the right to health.

“Together with ZHRC, we have conducted roadshows across the country, where people spoke largely about health rights violations, high hospital user fees, detention of new mothers over failure to settle bills as well as many others issues,” he said.
Fambirai said armed with such information, they had found it imperative to enhance the responsive capacity of ZHRC by creating an interactive platform with healthcare providers to chart the way forward.
ZADHR board chairperson Rutendo Bonde said the objective of the meeting to be held in Harare was to enhance the interest of ZHRC in promoting, protecting and enforcing the right to health and to map out a collaborative strategy for combating violation of the rights to health in Zimbabwe.
Health and Child Care minister David Parirenyatwa, ZHRC chairperson Elasto Mugwadi as well as Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors’ Association president Fortune Nyamande are expected to attend.
The workshop will run under the theme Enhancing the Promotion and Protection of the Right to Health through the Work of the ZHRC.
