This publication of Human Rights Bulletin provides an introductory analysis of the human rights situation in Zimbabwe. The document discusses universal human rights enshrined in the UDHR and where these human rights are found within the Zimbabwean Constitution. Yet, it is acknowledged that human rights cannot always be guaranteed if a state is in turmoil, or a government refuses to provide for their population. Poverty is a large factor in the poor human rights record in Zimbabwe, as well as the ongoing political violence since Zimbabwe’s independence.
This first edition of the Monthly Human Rights Bulletin delves into the political and civil rights in Zimbabwe and discusses the impact of violations of these rights and the victims involved.
