The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum (the Forum) mourns the passing on 9 October of Keith Goddard. He was a respected colleague and friend of the Forum whose contribution to human rights in Zimbabwe will be sorely missed.
The Forum was established in January 1998 when nine human rights nongovernmental organizations came together to provide legal and psychosocial assistance to the victims of organised violence and torture at the time. The organization he headed, Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe [GALZ] became a member of the Forum in 2001. He continued to represent GALZ on the Board of the Forum until his untimely death.
During his long association with the Forum his contribution to its affairs was positive, productive, wise and supportive.
He was a man of courage and humour whose capacity to overcome his physical disabilities was an example to us all.
He will be long remembered by everyone at the Forum and by the broad spectrum of organisations in Zimbabwe with which he was associated.
