Notable in the month of January was the heightened profile given to the preparations for the 29 March Harmonized Elections and the intensity of politically motivated human rights violations that came with it. The report documents various of these violations.
A particularly worrying trend is the selective application of the law and criminalization of lawful political activities by the Zimbabwe Republic Police when dealing with opposition political parties.
January sets forth a worrying trend of increasing violence that saw 2007 to be the year with most violations documented by the Forum, since the inception of its comprehensive monitoring in 2001.
