In the month of June the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum received a plethora of reports of human rights violations committed by police officers in Buhera North and South. High levels of systematic psychological torture in the form of death threats and intimidation in addition to abductions and torture were recorded.
These included an alleged attack on security guards manning the home of MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai. The guards were subsequently arrested, tortured and then released without charges being preferred against them. This sustained attack on perceived opposition party supporters in Buhera has resulted in their being displacement having been forced to flee the area out of fear. Displacement due to political violence is aggravating the internal refugee crisis currently facing Zimbabwe.
