The Forum took part in the 44th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights against a background of gross human rights violations that took place in the country prior to and after the 29 March Harmonised Elections. The Forum’s participation in the 44th Session was not only significant in highlighting these human rights abuses but also in lobbying the African Commission and state parties to the African Charter to push for an end to the political impasse and the humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe.
This report documents the active participation of the Forum and its members and their striving for building a coalition to improve the human rights situation in Zimbabwe. Of particular importance was the “Forum for the Participation of NGOs” that preceded the official session.
