In this document, the Forum analyses the government of Zimbabwe’s withdrawal from the Commonwealth and Commonwealth actions towards Zimbabwe. It is argued that the Commonwealth should remain engaged with Zimbabwe, despite the withdrawal and that the work done in South Africa during the Apartheid regime stands as a case in point in that regard.
The Forum does not anticipate the government of Zimbabwe to react positively towards such Commonwealth work. However, it appears crucial to show persisting commitment to democracy, human rights and the rule of law in that way.
Next to an exhaustive analysis resulting in clearly formulated recommendations, the documents also a rather exhaustive source of documents between the Commonwealth and Zimbabwe.
