The Board of the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum condemns the increasing use of torture as a method of investigation and interrogation by state agents on persons in their custody.
Several incidents of this barbaric behaviour have been reported of late; the most recent being the brutal torture of a human rights lawyer (a former employee of the Forum) and his co-accused.
The shocking detail of this torture was disclosed in evidence in open court this week. It was confirmed by a Government medical practitioner with the Attorney-General himself conceding that the medical evidence tended to support the allegations of torture.
The Forum calls on the relevant authorities to investigate the torture, prosecute those responsible and put in place measures that ensure that this diabolical practice ceases forthwith.
