The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum (the Forum) joins the rest of the world in commemorating the United Nations International Human Rights Day on 10 December 2017.This year’s theme, ‘#STANDUP4HUMANRIGHTS’ marks the beginning of a year of commemorating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) which
turns 70 in 2018.
The UDHR, which was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 10 December 1948, is celebrated as a historic document that laid the foundation for the UN human rights system. It undoubtedly inspired the recognition of human rights in international and regional instruments. 70 years after its adoption, the UHDR still lives on,
immortalized in the Bill of Rights of the Constitution of Zimbabwe as well as in that
of several other UN member states.
